Trinity Health Mid-Atlantic seeks a collaborative and accomplished surgeon to serve as its next Chair for the Department of Surgery.

The Chair of the Department of Surgery directs professional and support personnel within its clinical divisions including Bariatric Surgery, Breast Surgery, ENT, General Minimally Invasive Surgery, Neurosurgery, Ophthalmology, Orthopaedics, Plastic & Reconstructive, Podiatric, Thoracic, and Vascular Surgery, with a robust Robotic Surgery program. Surgical volume totals nearly 1,100 inpatient cases and 2,400 outpatient cases annually.

The Department of Surgery supervises nearly 12 general surgery residents. The Department of Surgery also coordinates the core surgery and surgical clinical rotations for medical students. The Chair will actively participate in the education of residents and medical students.

The successful candidate will provide ongoing, effective leadership in the Department of Surgery at Mercy Fitzgerald Hospital, networking with other physicians to promote Mercy Fitzgerald Hospital and expand its programs and services. He/she will be accountable to the Medical Executive Committee and the Hospital President (or designee) for monitoring all professional and administrative activities within the department and, particularly, for monitoring the quality of patient care rendered by members of his department.

He/she will serve as a member of the Medical Executive Committee, provide guidance on the overall medical policies of Mercy Fitzgerald Hospital, and make specific recommendations and suggestions regarding the surgical department consistent with the philosophy and mission of Mercy Fitzgerald Hospital.

The incoming Chair will have multiple opportunities to make an impact, including growing clinical programs. The new Chair will be a strategic leader who will promote a strong culture safety and quality throughout Mercy Fitzgerald Hospital. They will possess prior leadership and program development experience with demonstrated fiscal and administrative responsibility. The successful candidate will also have documented success in the clinical and education spheres and proven capabilities in strategic planning, recruitment and development, operations, resource allocation and related decision-making.
